TDC Provides Large Format Holiday Projections Down Under

SYDNEY — Technical Direction Company (TDC) crews delivered large format projections during the holiday season at some of the most prominent landmarks in Australia, with projects taking place in St Mary’s Cathedral here as well as  Melbourne Town Hall and the Old Post Office in Newcastle.

AVI Systems provided a digital display wall built with a 10-by-5-unit (WxH) configuration of Christie MicroTiles at the DuPont Innovation Center in Johnston, IA.

JOHNSTON, IA — For a 3,500-square-foot exhibition space within the twelfth DuPont Innovation Center,  which opened here June 25, AVI Systems provided a digital display wall built with a 10-by-5-unit (WxH) configuration of Christie MicroTiles. VIPs at the center’s grand opening included DuPont’s president and governor of Iowa.

OneBigStar Ltd, which provided the video, lighting and rigging for Bryan Ferry’s summer Jazz Age tour through Europe, also supported the artist’s round of U.K. performances, which wrapped up in late November, 2013

LONDON — OneBigStar Ltd, which provided the video, lighting and rigging for Bryan Ferry’s summer Jazz Age tour through Europe, also supported the artist’s round of U.K. performances, which wrapped up in late November. The set featured a video wall backdrop comprised of 36 PVP S7 video panels from Chauvet Professional.

LONDON — XL Video is supplying a projection system, Pandora’s Box mapping and media server control, cameras and PPU to the current #willpower solo tour by Black Eyed Peas founding member will.i.am. The tour recently moved from the U.S. to Europe.

LOS ANGELES — Smart Monkeys Inc. supported the video enhancements to the traveler experience at LAX’s Tom Bradley International Terminal. The Integrated Environmental Media System (IEMS) there incorporates seven media features with approximately 9,600 square feet of combined active display area, designed by Marcela Sardi of Sardi Design.

Creative Technology (CT) provided a video system including LED screens (more than 300 Barco MiStrips) and control (Ai Media Servers and a Panasonic 450 mixing system with a multi-viewer output).

LONDON — For Jessie J’s Alive Tour, Creative Technology (CT) provided a video system including LED screens (more than 300 Barco MiStrips) and control (Ai Media Servers and a Panasonic 450 mixing system with a multi-viewer output). The mix of prerecorded video content and I-Mag was overseen by Paul Caslin and Steve Price. The Jessie J Alive Tour completed its U.K. leg in November and takes off to America in the New Year for a three-month tour.

DURHAM, U.K. — For a third time, London-based projection artist Ross Ashton’s Crown of Light projection artwork work was invited back to Durham Cathedral for the 2013 Durham Lumière Festival, a four day event, curated and produced by Artichoke, commissioned by Durham City Council.

PIGEON FORGE, TN — AV Concepts worked with the Dollywood theme park here and Fred Blurton Productions to integrate holographic technology into its first production of Dollywood’s A Christmas Carol as part of the annual annual Smoky Mountain Christmas presented by Humana celebration. Adapted from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the show, which debuted Nov. 9, includes four holographic characters.

XL Video Supplies LED for “Eros Snow Globe”

LONDON — The Westminster City Council opted to install a large “snow globe” to protect the Shaftesbury Memorial and Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus. The replica snow globe, designed by Wildstone and constructed by fabric structure experts Architen Landrell, includes an 11-meter inflatable PVC membrane that adds a festive touch to the area while protecting the statue and monument safe.

Raven Industries Chooses Christie MicroTiles for Corporate Lobby Display

SIOUX FALLS — Raven Industries, based here, chose Christie MicroTiles as a key part of its extensive corporate lobby redesign. The seven-by-three array (WxH) is used for videos depicting the company’s history and three operating divisions. Raven Industries project coordinator Andrew Simmons chose the MicroTiles in part for their ability to display saturated colors in ambient light.

ATLANTA — Panasonic Eco Solutions North America helped the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) upgrade the LED video system at Grant Field’s Bobby Dodd Stadium. The AV company provided two new LED displays along with two new ribbon displays.  They complement the seven existing displays installed by Panasonic at the Stadium in 2009.

NEW YORK — At a fundraiser hosted by the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council, electronic music pioneer Richie Hawtin, who swapped his more usual club backdrop to play as Plastikman alongside his brother Matthew at the Guggenheim Museum. XL Video supported the event with an LED monolith on the ground floor of the iconic museum atrium for the event, sponsored by Dior.
