André Riendeau, the co-founder of Solotech, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, surrounded by his family, after a 17-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 81.

Istanbul’s famous Maiden’s Tower, which stands on a tiny islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus strait, 200 meters from the coast of Üsküdar in Istanbul, Turkey, has recently re-opened after restoration, complete with a fabulous new permanent lighting scheme designed by Martin Kuhn and featuring over 75 Anolis LED luminaires. Kuhn was working for AV specialist ASTEL and end client, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The time-worn adage might sound a bit trite to modern ears, but its validity is being vividly demonstrated to sellout crowds across Europe and North America on Metallica’s M72 World Tour. The eight distinctive towers that lend a dramatic flair to the production came about when Production Designer, Dan Braun, had to find an alternative to his initial vision of creating tensegrity structures for the show. “I have been interested in tensegrity sculpture for a while and was working on this concept for an indoor show,” said Braun, who’s worked closely with Lighting Designer Rob Koenig on the production. “Our world changed, when the tour went to stadiums in the round. The transformation seemed magical.
