Richard “Wookie” Whitley Works Sleight of Hand Magic for Cody Johnson with CHAUVET Professional

There is a bit of magic in every good lighting design. And magic, as every designer who’s practiced it knows, involves a little sleight of hand—those gentle deceptions that “trick” the human eye into seeing something beyond what is really there. Richard “Wookie” Whitley has been working this beautiful spell on audiences across North America on platinum-selling artist Cody Johnson’s The Leather tour. Helping him along the way is a versatile Wired Productions supplied flown rig that is anchored by 88 CHAUVET Professional fixtures.Read More »Richard “Wookie” Whitley Works Sleight of Hand Magic for Cody Johnson with CHAUVET Professional

CHAUVET Professional and Squeek Lights Help Quinn Brabender Keep Pace With The Plot In You

The Plot in You live at The Riviera Theatre, in Chicago, Photo by Sarah Hess

Fans never know what to expect at a live performance by The Plot In You. Sure, everybody understands that they will be treated to some razor-sharp riffs and take-your-breath-away melodic control that push (no, make that shatter) the boundaries of metalcore music, but sooner or later the band will thrill the crowd by turning on a dime and taking their performance in a surprising new direction. As one critic put it during the quartet’s recently completed three-month 42-city tour with Beartooth, “the uncanny element of surprise has entrenched the gold-selling Ohio quartet on the cutting edge of heavy music.”Read More »CHAUVET Professional and Squeek Lights Help Quinn Brabender Keep Pace With The Plot In You

Sensor3 Exorcises Ghosts at The Geffen

The Geffen Playhouse’s new Sensor3 power control system.

Ask any theatre professional if they’ve got a good ghost story and they’ll likely jump at the opportunity to recall a supposed first-hand encounter with the paranormal.  Whether you believe in the supernatural or not, the world of theatre has always been a breeding ground for superstition and mythmaking. The Geffen Playhouse, one of Los Angeles’ premiere theatre companies, recently found themselves with a ghost story of their own—one that was put to rest with the help of ETC’s Sensor3 dimmer racks and Paradigm processors.

John Garberson and Creative BackStage Pump Up Powerhouse with CHAUVET Professional

“Empty space is never wasted space,” Andy Warhol once observed. The pioneer of pop art knew whereof he spoke. By carefully inserting blank spaces in his work, he gave its emotional power room to grow and flourish. John Garberson, whose artistic bent goes in the direction of lighting design and photography, followed this philosophy recently when creating the lighting rig for the Powerhouse Hip-Hop celebration at the Desert Diamond Arena outside Phoenix.Read More »John Garberson and Creative BackStage Pump Up Powerhouse with CHAUVET Professional

Tom Kenny Lights Diverse Acts at ‘Premio Lo Nuestro’ Awards with CHAUVET Professional

The 2024 edition of Premio Lo Nuestro dazzled on many levels, not the least of which were what critics called the “historic collaborations” that were performed throughout the three-hour program. Demonstrating that Latin music really knows no boundaries, the Univision TV special featured reggaeton legend Don Omar doing a rendition of “Danza Kuduro” with pop-punk rocker Machine Gun Kelly. Then there was Mexican music sensation Carin León joining forces with country music star Kane Brown in the world premiere of their song “The One (Pero No Como Yo).” Camilo and Evaluna also broke new ground at Miami’s Kaseya Center by performing their song “PLIS” for the first time on television.Read More »Tom Kenny Lights Diverse Acts at ‘Premio Lo Nuestro’ Awards with CHAUVET Professional
