Florida State University’s School of Theatre and USITT have unveiled the 2023 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space exhibits that will be presented by the U.S. in Prague this June. Also, The 1/52 Project, which offers $15,000 grants to provide financial support to encourage rising designers from historically excluded groups, has opened up applications for 2023.

Get all the details about The Latinx Theatre Commons (LTC) announcement of the 2023 LTC Designer and Director Colaboratorio. The event will be hosted by Centro Cultural, Northwest Children’s Theatre, and Artists Repertory Theatre. Colaboratorio is a five-day series of learning opportunities designed to encourage authentic creative expressions and collaboration between Latinx designers and directors as well as foster alternative communication models for production teams.

Curating The Making of a Broadway Show Exhibit

The Museum of Broadway, an immersive and interactive theatrical experience, has opened in New York City’s theater district. The Making of a Broadway Show exhibit was designed by Scenic Designer and Architect David Rockwell with Faye Armon-Troncoso serving as Set Decorator & Prop Supervisor. She spoke with Stage Directions in PLSN about her work in support of this thoughtful and deep diving look at the many people, roles and elements that bring a Broadway show to the stage. Featuring the work of dozens of designers, theater artists, and historians, the museum’s exploration of the past, present, and future of Broadway is receiving standing ovations from visitors.

The Henry Hewes Design Awards honored six designers for the 2021-2022 theater season as well as presented two legendary lighting designers with the Ming Cho Lee Award for Lifetime Achievement in Design.

Collier Woods, Jr. Scholarship and Del Hughes Awards

USITT recently announced that Niya John and Kim Parson have been selected as the 2022 recipients of the Collier Robert Woods, Jr. Scholarship. Also, the Stage Managers’ Association (SMA) has announced its annual Del Hughes Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Stage Management.

Cirque du Soleil’s ‘FUZION’

Lighting and set designer Mikki Kunttu returns to Cirque du Soleil with “FUZION,” a specially commissioned brand-new production that was staged for the 2022 Jeddah Season Festival.

Stage Directions Callboard: Shubert Foundation, Ruth Arts Announce New Grants

The Shubert Foundation recently announced a record $37.6 million in grants for not-for-profit theater and dance companies along with $2 million for two HBCU colleges. Another bright spot on the horizon: Ruth Arts, created on behalf of the late arts philanthropist Ruth DeYoung Kohler II, has plans for a wide array of grants totaling more than $17 million annually.
