Oregon Symphony’s Music for the Eyes

Millennials, now the largest single demographic in the world, have not gravitated en masse to the concert halls frequented by their parents and grandparents. But the Oregon Symphony — the oldest continually operating symphony in the western U.S. — is not just any orchestra. With its optimistic slogan, “Moving Music Forward,” the symphony has embraced the goal of attracting new audience members with innovative visual presentations integrated with music.

‘HAILstorm’ Seen by 5,000, Despite the Rain

To help celebrate its 200-year milestone during the school’s 2017 homecoming festivities, the University of Michigan turned to Maxin10sity, a Budapest, Hungary-based projection-mapping design firm founded by Tamás Vaspöri. The end result, HAILstorm, was a 10-minute spectacle that transformed the Rackham Building on the university’s Ingalls Mall into a creative array of trompe l’oeil imagery marking the university’s highlights and the passage of time.

Honoring “Big Z” at the Q with a Full Court Show

On March 8, 2014, The Cleveland Cavaliers honored their former center, Zydrunas “Big Z” Ilgauskas, by officially retired his #11 team number. But the Cleveland Cavaliers QTV crew did it with a lot more visual sizzle than just an announcement over the P.A. and I-Mag on the center video display. They teamed up with Think Media and Quince Imaging to produce a large format projection that not only covered the expanse of the court but was mapped to its various parts, transforming the 2D surface and content with 3D movement and effects.
