Editor’s Note

You Can’t Do It Alone

LDI, The Conference: Live at Lititz, NAMM, the PLSN/FOH ProProduction Sessions and the Parnelli Awards are all just around the corner—in-person gatherings that can enrich every attendee. The November issue of PLSN, like every other issue we publish, is also packed with inspiring products, projects, and people generously sharing their experience.

Mental Health Support

Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 6-12 and World Mental Health Day is October 10, and It is heartening to see more providers of training and care for mental health, addiction, and other self-care are becoming readily accessible on tours and in shops.

Preparing for Fall

PLSN Editor Michael S. Eddy points out a few safety trainings that have come across his desk in recent weeks from The Event Safety Alliance, USITT and Behind the Scenes and reminds readers to nominate worthy people, companies and products for special recognition at the next Parnelli Awards show.

Shared Stories

Welcome to the July issue of PLSN, with our special focus on Festivals. This month we also highlight the work of the Eggshell Lighting Company along with Production Spotlight and Design Insight features on Justin Timerlake and the Rolling Stones. Editor Micheal S. Eddy also invites readers to submit their own tips, tricks and tales from the road.

Level Up Your Mental Health Awareness

We’re glad you’re joining us for more industry conversations. This month, I would like to give over my Editor’s Note to Kara Kemp, General Manager for Touring Career Workshops out of Nashville. Kara created a blog post for May, which was Mental Health Awareness Month, but since Mental Health is a topic which we need to be addressing all throughout the year, PLSN wanted to share this.

The Effort Continues

Well Dunn is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing opportunities for socioeconomically diverse students across the music and entertainment industry. One of our industry’s most enthusiastic mentors, David ‘5-1’ Norman stepped down from serving as the Foundation’s President due to increasing touring commitments, but 5-1 has been and remains a driving force for Well Dunn, which offers assistance for hundreds of college students, providing mentorship, scholarship opportunities, internships, and job placement.

Join the Conversation

Discussions on topics like mental health and wellness, finances and pay, labor issues, and quality of work/life balance are important conversations taking place in our industry.

Introducing Life’s Jam

Over the years, PLSN has become a hub for the industry conversations that drive us forward both professionally and personally. It is with that spirit that PLSN Editor Michael S. Eddy welcomes a new column to PLSN – ‘Life’s Jam,’ a new column on financial wellness penned by Life’s Jam founder Rachael Bronstein.

Expanding the Industry

Looking at the numbers from the Top 10 tours of 2023 for our special Showtime section, it’s clear that the concert touring business is back with a vengeance. Of course, with success comes new challenges to our industry, including the current shortage of qualified labor. But some new initiatives are addressing these concerns, and PLSN looks forward to facilitating conversations and the efforts of the industry in 2024.
