Cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo’s choice of colors for the feature film, The Green Knight, might seem surprising. When asked by PLSN’s Will Romano if he applied green lighting liberally throughout the shoot, Palermo notes, “I didn’t end up doing too much of it, just because I wanted to shy away from what might have been expected, color-wise. However, any time I had the presence of witchcraft, I started pushing a little green into it. These characters were more in touch with nature and were challenging something that the other people in the film had lost touch to.” The filming location, however, did defer to the need for green. Instead of Budapest, which was hot and “not as green, lush and alive as we wanted it to be,” the film’s production team chose the Emerald Isle — Ireland.
