Elation Design Beam 1200C

The Elation Design Beam 1200C is a 1200W hybrid that can perform as either a spot, wash or long throw beam projector. Housed in a case with the dimensions more commonly found among 575W fixtures, the Design Beam 1200C is sized for tight spaces and is well suited to tours and traveling productions. The instrument also features wireless DMX and is powered by a Philips MSR1200 7,500k discharge lamp.

Philips Adds Selecon to its Expanding Portfolio

AMSTERDAM — Royal Philips acquired New Zealand-based Selecon, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of professional theatrical and architectural lighting fixtures.  Under the terms of the agreement, Philips will acquire the business assets of Selecon New Zealand Limited, Selecon UK Limited, Selecon North America LLC and Aureol Lighting Limited. No financial details on the transaction were disclosed.

Digital Hoist Controller

Show Distribution Group Inc.’s latest controller for the entertainment rigging industry is a handheld computer controller designed to synchronize positioning and load balancing on over 250 hoists of any brands or type, including winches and scenery elevators. Features include user-defined access to control, meaning that certain users could have access to only a certain group of hoists, or be able to move hoists as groups only and not individually. Built with a heavy-duty remote enclosure and customizable and programmable to meet many requirements, the controller can be reprogrammed to be used in different setups or configuration. It can also be upgraded to add features like position monitoring, synchronization, load monitoring, speed control and more, assuming the hoists or winches are properly equipped with such features. It is well-suited for schools, churches, theatres, convention centers, touring, live events and other uses.

ESTA/USITT Add Rigging, Electrical Training Sessions

CANTON, MI — The Joint Training Initiative of The ESTA Foundation and USITT announces Electrical and Rigging Training Sessions to be held at the Village Theatre at Cherry Hill in Canton,  Mich.  The event will be hosted and co-produced by Eastern Michigan University at Ypsilanti in association with The Village Theatre at Cherry Hill.

Zero 88 ORB Console

Zero 88, part of Cooper Controls Ltd, launched ORB, a new theatrical lighting console based on market research and customer feedback. The ORB uses four universes of DMX control and the ZerOS software suite, the same platform underlying the operating system used for Zero 88’s Leap Frog and Frog 2. The ORB lets users control and integrate multiple LED fittings, intelligent lights or media servers controlling video along with generic dimming systems. The user interfaces include custom designed encoder wheels, multiple playback stacks, user definable keys and optional touch screens. The ORB also offers tools like an integrated track ball, automatic palettes and syntax keys for more experienced lighting operators. The ORB will be featured at the ProLight + Sound Exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany.

DOE Honors Philips Color Kinetics for LED Advances

WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) honored Philips Color Kinetics with a "Significant Achievement in Solid-State Lighting Research & Development" award. It was the second year for the company's research efforts to be chosen to join a select few from more than 50 DOE-funded projects for the honor.
