Shania Twain ‘Queen of Me’ Tour

Multi Grammy-winner Shania Twain is currently traveling the world with her Queen of Me tour. This marks Twain’s first tour in nearly five years. PLSN caught up with Lighting Designer André Petrus to talk about the lighting design and how it supports Twain’s music and performances. Petrus has been working with Twain since 2015 programming for her tours and lighting her well-received Las Vegas residency show.

Chance the Rapper Celebrates a Decade of Acid Rap

Designer Michael Apostolos, Principal of Chicago-based Fourline Creative was Production and Lighting Designer for Chance The Rapper’s series of one-off shows celebrating the 10th anniversary of his 2013 breakthrough mixtape Acid Rap. He performed a homecoming show at the United Center in Chicago, followed by nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.

Designing the 2023 MTV Music Video Awards

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards’ design and production teams really created a wide variety of unique looks for this year’s edition of the show which debuted back in 1984. PLSN spoke with both Production Designer Matt Steinbrenner and Lighting Designer Tom Sutherland about the creative and technical solutions they and their teams brought to this year’s VMAs, hosted by Nicki Minaj, at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

Perelman Performing Arts Center

NYC’s new Perelman Performing Arts Center, the cultural cornerstone of the World Trade Center site, has opened with three theater spaces and a stunning exterior. The 129,000 sq.-ft. building, designed by REX, was realized in collaboration with theater consultant Charcoalblue.

Lighting In the Box: Lyric Opera’s ‘The Flying Dutchman’

Lighting Designer Anne Militello recently made her Lyric Opera lighting the company’s production of The Flying Dutchman. The inventive set designed by Allen Moyer is a large rectangular box, presenting Militello with a rather confining creative challenge which she took and solved with stunning results, and minimal front light.
