Royal Opera House Upgrades Control System

LONDON — When London’s Royal Opera House reopened its doors at the end of 1999 after a three-year refurbishment program, the performances were, for the most part, lit with conventional fixtures. Since then, as automated fixtures have become quieter, the Royal Opera House has added them to their stock, along with multimedia devices, to enable them to meet their challenging schedules.

Moving Lights Prescribed for Die Arzte Tour

KONSTANZ, Germany — The three-piece German punk band Die Arzte (The Physicians) used up to 76 moving lights on their recent tour. They performed at 40 European venues, with three set configurations for playing arenas, clubs and headline festival slots.

New Gear Lights Classic Music at London Church

LONDON — The fixed lighting grid and rig for the old church of St. John in Smith Square were becoming almost as classical as the music performed at the English Baroque church near Westminster Abbey in London. The church had been using CCT Starlet 1.2K fresnels since the early 1980s. The church got a recent upgrade with gear from Robert Juliat.

12th and Porter Club Expands Moving Light Rig

NASHVILLE — The 12th and Porter club, a venue that has served as a launching pad for up-and-coming bands, overhauled its stage lighting system three years ago with 16 Clay Paky light fixtures, added by Daniel Slezinger, who was then the club’s production manager.
