LOS ANGELES — Production Resource Group, LLC (PRG) has named Curry Grant as vice president, Concert Touring. Grant joined PRG in 2004 when the company merged with Vari-Lite Production Services (VLPS).

City Theatrical Provides SHoW DMX to “Oliver!”

LONDON — City Theatrical Inc. (CTI) has provided SHoW DMX equipment to lighting contractor Howard Eaton Lighting Ltd. for Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Oliver!, now playing at The Theatre Royal in London’s West End.

Sapsis Rigging Issues BTS Challenge Grant

NEW YORK—Sapsis Rigging has issued a $2,500 challenge grant for the Behind the Scenes / Long Reach Long Riders raffle at USITT in Cincinnati. When the proceeds of the raffle reach $2,500, Sapsis rigging will match that amount. The grant provides the opportunity for donors to effectively double their contributions, all of which goes toward helping colleagues in a time of need.

Los Temerarios Lit with Robe for U.S. Shows

LOS ANGELES — Mexican pop artists Los Temerarios have over 120 shows planned for 2009 in the U.S., Central and South America using a lighting design by Fabian Boggino that includes over 80 Robe moving lights. Boggino has worked for Los Temerarios since 1998. This is the group’s first tour in three years.

Pylons at Patriots Hall of Fame Lit by Robert Juliat

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Robert Juliat Quincy profiles play a key role in the new Hall at Patriot Place, a sports and educational showcase for the New England Patriots and their Hall of Fame.  The venue, adjacent to Gillette Stadium, includes four 30-foot-high Magink pylons whose digital displays highlight the careers of each Hall of Famer via video, still images and text.

Barbizon Miami Opens New Facility, Plans BLUE Show

MIRAMAR, FL — Barbizon Lighting of South Florida is set to open its new facility here on Feb. 26 with the BLUE show (Barbizon Lighting’s Ultimate Equipment show.) Live event customers will be able to network with colleagues from Film & TV Broadcast, Theatre, Cruise Ship and Architectural Lighting. All BLUE Show Sessions are to be held in Barbizon South Florida’s Demo room.

Chaos Acquires Chris Wickman Productions

LOS ANGELES—Chaos Visual Productions, formed in Dec 2008 by John J. Wiseman, Chris Kaman and Chuck Burtzloff, has announced its acquisition of 100 percent of CW Productions (CWP). CWP was founded in 1989 by Chris and Sheila Wickman as a show production rental house, and now handles specialty lighting, video, projection, and show programming.

    This week I have been testing out a slew of new lights that manufacturers have been coming out with this year. And I have to admit that I have been impressed with all of them.

PR Lighting StarBrite LED Cloth

PR Lighting has launched the new StarBrite LED cloth and dedicated PR-8710C controller, which comes complete with flight case. IPX3-protected (against spraying water), the StarBrite comes with 12 preset programs contains a total of 144 LEDs (18 x 8 sequences), with a lamp life of 30,000 hours. Outputting 150cd brightness with all the LED’s emitting white light, it also offers strobe, white color channel (for color testing, and with strobe and dimming), DMX or manual control. There is also a key-press lock for avoiding improper operation. The LED StarBrite’s power consumption is less than 30W, while the Controller (input 200W, output 150W max) can drive four separate StarBrite cloths. The StarBrite comes in 6000mm x 4000mm cloth sizes and the controller measures 190mm x 320mm x 87.5mm. The cloth and 15-meter signal connection cable weighs 20kg and the controller 2.3kg.

Robe Moving Lights for Doll Domination Tour

PARIS — LD Scott Warner is using Robe moving lights, including fixtures from the Digital Series, on his rig for the Pussycat Dolls “Doll Domination” tour, with lighting equipment being supplied by U.K.-based HSL.

XL Video Shares in Kings of Leon’s Visual Balance

LONDON — XL Video UK supplied MiTrix screens, 290 HD VersaTubes, cameras/PPU, Catalyst digital media servers and crew to the Kings of Leon “Only By The Night” tour. The show features an original IMAG mix directed by Phil Woodhead, who’s working closely with Catalyst operator Phil Haynes, lighting co-designer Ali Bale and creative director Paul Normandale on the show’s visual big picture.
