Designer Insights by Steve Jennings:
Jason Bullock
Lighting Designer/Director, Infinity Point Design
Jason Bullock has been working with Wiz Khalifa for the past fie years. As a co-headlining tour with both Snoop Dog and Wiz, this tour has been a long time in the making, says Bullock.
“Snoop hasn’t carried an LD in about 10 years. Over the past years working with Wiz, I’ve had many meetings with Snoop. It came up in a conversation last year that he was into my taking care of him, he always liked what he saw in Wiz’s show from that blue haired guy jumping around his console out front.
“This year, the emphasis was placed mainly on video, overall show concept, and special FX. In that theme with the short pre-production time I selected some of the new Phenom moving head lasers from Lightwave International. The are a fantastic small fixture. It is one of the only audience scanning certified moving head lasers controlled via DMX. Allowing a whole new type of show to be created around this fixture. Both Snoop and Wiz had songs that were completely lit in laser. They loved the look and feel onstage. Making for a very cool departure from anything else we’ve done over the years. Another change was using the VL 3015LT (6) as a truss spot. Which were great for that purpose.
“This tour was a pleasure to assemble. In virtually every department I had “repeat offenders” (crew) who had been on one Wiz tour or another. With the short production times available we were able to construct a very cool show in minimum time that continued to evolve over the course of the tour. Upstaging, Screenworks, and Lightwave International having worked with me on this very project before, all knew what I expected and delivered the service that I have come to expect as the best out there.”
