Designer Insights:

Jordan Babev, Lighting Designer, Programmer & Director

Blearred Lighting Design started working with the Italian rock band Måneskin after they won the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, starting with a run of European Festivals.  “The band and management are very much involved in every single phase of the design,” notes Blearred LD Jordan Babev. “They have clear ideas of how they want the show to look. What we wanted to achieve was a colorful, saturated, and very dynamic kind of live visual design. This is the reason why we based our design on powerful spotlights along with the JDC1 strobes. In terms of fixture availability, I have to say that PRG have been great; what we had on tour was what I put on the list in version 1 of the design, so no substitutions have been made from the original plan.”

Babev says the whole design process took into consideration the need to scale the show up and down depending on the different venue sizes they would play on the tour. “We wanted to design the stage around the band in a way that we were able to give them as much room as possible in order to not limit their freedom of movement since the band are so active around the stage. We needed to fit the whole lighting floor package, backline and audio system into one truck, so obviously that ended up being a challenge.”

“I love working with a band with such high energy,” adds Babev. “They’re great musicians and amazing human beings. We know the band since they started in Italy and we always believed they would achieve great success. Touring with them is nothing but good vibes from start to finish, and we are proud to have the chance to design their shows, so running the show for them is a great experience on multiple levels. It’s been great to be around our amazing production crew that love what they do and knowing that I’m supported in such an extensive way.”
