As I write to you, oh ardent citizens of Technopolis, movers surround me, putting most of my worldly possessions in the back of a truck.
It reminds me, surprisingly not, of a load-out.
For the next week, these brown cardboard boxes will travel roughly eight hundred miles, en route from the Windy City to the Big Apple. (Those of you in NYC, don't hesitate to drop me a line, as I will soon be your newest neighbor.)
So, since things are a little busy in the Gilbert household, I thought I'd shower you with a few random thoughts and a little link-love.
First up, Technopolite Dan Studnicky recently sent me this kind e-mail…
Hi Phil,
I enjoyed your article about RSS feeds. I’ve been praising feeds for a while now to anyone who will listen and it often feels similar to yelling at a brick wall. Once in a while I’ll notice a brick fall off.
From the other side of the server, at Creative Stage Lighting we’ve been using RSS to notify visitors of sales specials, press releases, new newsletters, and more. We even have a page to help assist visitors and walk them through the process of subscribing:
http://www.creativestagelighting.com/rss.html
Over time I hope that more people understand the value of these feeds and how much time they can save. Then again, maybe people just like clicking on buttons.
I for one, love buttons of all kinds Dan. I like clicking buttons. I like tapping buttons. I like hovering over buttons. I especially like pushing (my editor's) buttons.
I think it's great when companies find new uses for existing technology, and Creative Stage Lighting is a great example of this.
Keep up the great work guys.
Next, I wanted to draw your attention to a few goings on at PLSN…
Our website continues to evolve, and though we don't always toot our own horn – after all, our job is to toot the horns of the industry – we've opened up a couple of new offices you might not have known about.
Our fearless leader Terry has begun a series of videos called PLSN-TV. On PLSN-TV you'll get to see and hear about all the latest news (and hopefully gossip) that flows through our industry. You can see it by going to our front page and clicking on PLSN-TV.
I'm also very excited about our newest correspondent, Alexandra, who is reporting to you LIVE and DIRECT from Stratford-on-Avon, home of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go here to learn more about Alexandra's experience.
If you dig a little Bill Shakespeare and think that Stratford-on-Avon is the Bee's Knees, go here to hang with Alexandra and see what this incredible young woman is doing with her Summer.
And if neither of the first two apply, go here or we'll take your ass out.
That's all for now.
As faithful denizens of Technopolis, be sure to check out the rest of the family of PLSN blogs at http://plsn.com/wp/blogs/ .
And as always, be sure to let me know what you're interested in reading about in the future. I'm always interested in researching new topics for you, the reader. You can reach me via e-mail at pgilbert <at> plsn <dot> com .
Until next time, buckle up, and enjoy the ride, as we explore the darkest alley-ways of Technopolis, a well-lit back road we call The Complex.
