OK we’re back with another fine edition of “The Notebook.” The Bonerama group just got done a two week run down south and are fresh off a great performance on the Late Show with David Lettermen with OK Go’s Damien Kulash promoting their new EP “You’re Not Alone.” These past two weeks were full of good things. One would definitely be the new sections and solos added to the music. Each time I’ve gone out to work something new has emerged in their performances.
A lot of that I believe has to do with the arrival of trombonist Greg Hicks. Greg is a young musician from Colorado that recently jumped on board with Bonerama full time at the beginning of this tour. He particularly likes strobing when he starts to go off on his solos which I am happy to do since strobing with moving lights is one of my specialties.
The shows down south spanned from Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, Oxford, Atlanta, and Little Rock. This was the first tour I got to see how the new gear I added to the rig would work out. It’s always varying what can and can’t be used so you need to figure out multiple scenarios for everything. When we were in Oxford I couldn’t fit in the totem truss which is usually complimented with a couple LEDs for toning. I ended up using those particular fixtures to light up the amps instead, which worked out pretty neat! So the versatility of the rig was successful for different size rooms and I can make it work virtually in any room now which is exciting.
Next up on the agenda is to start upgrading my moving fixtures and add in some new scenery elements to the mix. I’ve been developing a new prototype for the trombonists. It will serve as great stage props for the band and visually tasty for the crowds eyes. To compliment those new pieces a collaboration with Coemar is happening to move it into full swing. I don’t want to reveal anything yet, just know it will be a cool new concept to stage lighting that everyone will enjoy. We’ll probably do press releases on it to spread the word sometime this year. Thanks again for reading =)
