Buenos Dias Todos,
Well my Spanish isn’t quite where I’d like it to be but it is good enough to strike up small talk with some of the Mexican crew and band members I have been working with on the Marco Antonio Solis U.S. tour. Most do speak alright English and the ones who don’t speak too quickly to me so my brain won’t spin. So at the end of the day the communication barrier I once thought was going to be hard to break was quite simple to step through if you’re willing to try. Especially in my case as the LD because the production carries two LDs. This is a pretty cool ideal for the production when you have the U.S. based LD (me) who can communicate efficiently with our American stage hands here and the Mexican LD, Danielle Ganado who liaisons for me with the Mexican crew. On top of that he is a great help programming the show with me and he will actually drive the show here and there when the powers that be deem necessary. A very close replica to this rig is probably going over to Mexico for gigs so it is important Danielle and I share responsibilities so he can head the show and its programming across the border.
Moving on to the shows, there have been some notable venues visited over the course of this tour and each one has significance to me. To begin a friend called me this morning from Arizona to catch up on small talk and asked how Madison Square Garden went and the one word that can associate that venue with is HISTORY. Many greats have set foot in that building and it always feels great to be apart of that history there (still working on obtaining some photos). Shoreline Amphitheater also comes to mind, but this venue is more about an outdoor environment. It is right next to the ocean and a lot of my favorite acts have come through this venue. We really made good strides with this shows and came up with some big looks.
Right now we’ve wrapped the final weekend of the U.S. tour and it all ended with a two night stay at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, CA. This is a new state of the art venue with great pre built rigging and massive amounts of lighting. Granted we use none of it except clear com and a lighting snake but you can never walk into a sexy venue like this and not look at what its packing. Here are some pictures from the shows.
Thanks for reading as always, next weeks blog will be about weighing my options finishing the year out and setting up a Q and A with Phish LD Chris Kuroda for their upcoming reunion shows and an upcoming Halloween show with Basshound and I'm dressing as…
