Keeping Your Old Numbers

Being found is important in our biz. I think that’s why people keep their old email addresses and phone #’s. I got a couple calls this week from cell phones with area codes I recognized as San Francisco and Atlanta. However, both of these calls originated from friends I know who now live in Seattle.

When people wish to find me, they know I have the same shitty aol email address and will never give it up. While aol is not my favorite server, they give a free address to anyone. And everyone can find me. I will never get rid of this. I just forward all that mail to my own website address so I know I’ll never miss a gig call from some old friend.

Kenny Mednick is a rock LD and an old friend of mine. He recently found me after 10 years. He’s been in Seattle for years but his area code is 415. If I am busy, I will not always answer my phone if it’s an area code I don’t know of. But 415 has meant San Francisco to me forever. I have a load of buddies who reside in that area. So I will always answer the phone if that area code shows up on my phone. I’m pretty sure it’s not a solicitor. So because of this, I was able to touch base with an old friend I may have missed had he not kept his old area code.
