But I Still Love Technology Always And Forever

Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of experimenting with my computers. Back home my friends dad is a retired Computer Science professor at a local university. He also happens to be a Macintosh guru that has organized a party for the past 25 years since the release of the company’s first computers. This year was the first time I attended and it was great. You basically show up with your Mac, plug in, connect to the network, grab a beer, and share away with all the other users there in attendance. Which leads me into the whole VMware Fusion vs. Boot Camp problem I’ve been having.

While we have informative lectures on new Apple tech out there such as the Apple TV we also had a lecture on how to fuse both Mac and PC platforms under one Mac platform. The answer was VMware Fusion. Before I heard of Apple Boot Camp, but I found that you can’t run them simultaneously and it was quite the pain in the rear to install. After looking at many forums and still not finding the proper solution needed, I took a chance on VM Fusion. The only snag I hit with Fusion is when using ESP Vision. Using this high dynamic rendering program can seriously slow your system and the rendering shades aren’t too legit. This is because it doesn’t fully use your graphics card. On the good side it will support all PC console simulators just fine and GrandMa 3D. So what’s next?

You patiently wait for a software build that will support what you need, or invest in the things that will make it work. So far the solutions out there are either waiting for ESP Vision to release their Mac Beta version which is coming late this March or VMware Fusion will figure a way to use the graphics card to its fully ability. A simple yet pricey solution would be to buy a new PC that will support all the specs of ESP Vision but it’s not in my personal budget to head that direction right now. So I can only keep my fingers crossed and wait for the cavalry to arrive. That cavalry is my summer gig so I can save some money!

In closing I want to remind you folks to keep an eye out for the April edition of PLSN. Recently I wrapped a phone interview with Phish LD Chris Kuroda. If you’ve heard of the band you know they put on a tremendous live show. They have recently reformed to play again this month and a small summer tour this year. My first experiences paying attention to lights have been at their concerts. So it is true that because of this guy I got into lighting. It’s not everyday we get to chat with folks who inspire us.
