Hey Everyone,
I talked myself down of that ledge after the last post. Recently a representative from BuckCherry contacted me inquiring my availability this coming year for an upcoming tour with Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel (I think). Jumping at the opportunity , I immediately expressed interest because these are a great pairing of bands.
Of course my OCD kicks in and began asking away questions to try and get informed as best I can for the time being. After the conversation I immediately got the bands tunes together to begin learning the music. After a few listens I get out the notebook and begin formulating ideas on how to approach the show. Then go through the ideas of what effects will most closely associate with a particular song. If you are familiar with the art form of "Punting" you know on certain console you have a limited number of triggers for what effects you'll want to use. By effects I mean anything from ballys, macro positions, strobes, gobo rolls, color scrolls, etc. So choose wisely what you will want to call on at all times. Then if you are out of space I find that making a second template page helps or if your cuelist is written closely enough you can insert them when needed in a specific situation. This is me just thinking out loud on how to get prepared for the show.
The most important part of getting a new gig is being prepared. It is good to make up a list of things to ask when negotiating getting a show. This way you have everything that's on your mind to ask, or in the veterans case they've asked the same questions for the past however many years you become programmed on everything you must overlook. Being the age I am now I am glad to have worked with people who have been my mentors in catching these things and improving as best I can. The fellas know who they are ;). These guys have been my guardians in the course of moving up into the bigger playing fields of this business. They took a chance on me… For that I am forever grateful and wish to pass on pass it on to an apprentice of mine one day. May the force be with you always.
