I have long been a supporter of people who ask questions. I would much rather have a lighting tech ask me a stupid question, then assume the wrong answer and have to do something twice because they were afraid to ask.
I like giving advice. I spend an hour each week writing back to young professionals and companies who are just starting up. I do this because to this day, I am asking advice all the time. Sometimes I have cool ideas. But logistically, they may suck to the techs who have to fabricate my silly ideas. But these techs want an easy solution and I want a low cost way to get my designs to work. They will often give me alternative ways they have done something similar in the past. Sometimes this makes my ideas look even better, or simply feasable to use.
I asked an awful lot of questions when I started out years ago. I am sure I was bothersome to lots of old guys. Bill Klages once told me I asked way too many questions. But when he and I were getting a cup of coffee at a break, he would always saddle over and answer them for me. So I learned from the masters. Now I am in debt and will try to give it back any way I can.
Just don't come to me for marital advice.
