Mountain Productions, the legendary staging and rigging company based in Wilkes-Barre, PA, has come up with the ultimate road case designed for housing chain hoists. Being a certified CM dealer brought around the necessity for a stronger case. According to Mountain Productions’ Marty Wesstrom, “the average motor case takes quite a beating on the road and obviously does not have a long life. We designed this specific road case with the idea that hopefully it will be the last one you will ever need to transfer your motors and other products.”
The Design:
Measuring 48 by 24 by 32.55 inches (WxDxH), the box is designed for your standard truck. The inside however, can be modified with whatever insert you require to fit your needs. Quickly changing inserts enables this case to house 2-ton, 1-ton or ½-ton CM products — or any combination of motors for that matter as the MTN box boasts hundreds of configurations for an insert. Looking at the pics attached, you can notice the ease with which the different products can be arranged.
The Strength
The MTN Box is constructed of a super tough nylon resin polymer that is 10 times stronger than your typical laminated road case. It is resistant to chemicals, dust, heat and moisture. The case is designed with an inside and outside layer molded together through a process called rotational mold, for durability and versatility specifically designed for the rigors of the road. The case incudes a steel plate along the bottom to add specific strength to the case for lifting it with a fork, as well as caster attachment. The casters are the popular touring models specifically designed for heavy cases to glide across any hard surface effortlessly.
These wheels bolt directly to the steel plate itself rather than the polymer like so many other case manufacturers, so the risk of them ever shearing off of the case is practically nil. On top of the case are Mountain-designed caster cups. Rather than the typical slot in lids where cases have a few inches to roll around, Mountain wanted something that would hold the top box in place for ultimate safe transport when these cases are stacked. They came up with a cradle type caster cup on top. The wheels can face in any direction when they are stacked, protecting fingers on techs. The case and its contents can be stacked three high effortlessly in any truck, four high in your warehouse.
The Inserts
The MTN Box can be ordered with any insert to accommodate your needs. The rotational inserts can be easily swapped out or removed so the case can be used for any application. There are preconfigured channels in the case to slide the inserts in effortlessly. Need a big strong empty case for wire rope and shackles? No problem. Looking at the pics attached, one can see just a few typical configurations with different sized hoists.
The new series of CM motors are three inches longer that the traditional hoists. This is a problem for CM owners who have to rethink their own case designs. Not so with the MTN Box. They have designed a special insert where two motors fit sideways at an angle to absorb the additional length. Again, one case fits all. This industrial strength road case weighs in at 150 pounds empty, and indeed, Mountain Productions has broken the mold with this innovative road case. The spring-loaded side handles snap back into place after use to prevent damage.
