Blizzard Lighting: Typhon™ IP Profile 1000
This month PLSN brings our readers a focused look at the Typhon™ IP Profile 1000 luminaire from Blizzard Lighting. For many rental shops and venues with both indoor and outdoor spaces, having a moving light that has an exterior weather rating to stand up to rain, dust, and other environmental effects is important—and makes economic sense. It won’t matter as much indoors (though there are theatrical shows that it wouldn’t hurt either), but outside in the rain and weather, not having to bag—and unbag—your lights is a big timesaver, not to mention a healthy insurance against damage. With its IP66 rating, the Typhon IP Profile is an automated moving head luminaire designed for exterior usage in all kinds of atmospheric conditions.
This moving head fixture, that uses a 1,000W white LED light engine, has a 540°/270° pan and tilt range, electronic focus, and an 8:1 motorized zoom range of 5°-40° (50° field angle). For easier handling getting it in and out of it’s included ATA spec road case, the Typhon IP Profile comes complete with pan and tilt locks and handles on the base.
Color System
The Typhon IP Profile includes several ways to create color for designers. With its CMY color mixing system + CTO filter, the light offers a wide range of diverse hues that are easily accessible. The light also has a six-color (+open) color wheel that allows for color indexing and variable speed rotation via DMX, enabling users to create a wide array of colored lighting effects.
Framing, Gobos, and Effects
Like the conventional profiles that were the basis for the automated moving light, this fixture includes shutters, gobos, iris, strobe, and other ways to animate and add effects to the light. The Typhon IP Profile features a four-blade framing shutter system that’s rotatable up to 110°, along with six replaceable rotating gobos, plus an open slot, as well as seven static metal gobos, plus an open slot. For motion and animation effects, the Typhon IP Profile includes a bi-directional four-facet rotating prism, frost filter, and an effect wheel. All ways to add some movement and visual effects to the beam of light.
