Tour Dates: January 2013-December 2014

Your lighting approach:

“I draw up everything in Vectorworks. My lighting approach looks at the larger picture; I treat each project as installation art. I was given the band’s artwork as a starting piece; this we turned into some fantastic looking set pieces which have been the foundation of this album’s campaign from early on. Using lighting, lasers and video we managed to produce an ever-changing, ever-improving show.”

LD Louis Oliver and Chvrches“I started working with Chvrches while they were still writing and producing the album; the first show I worked on was their first show as a band. The band and management have trusted me as a creative to produce the highest level possible show from day one and in that vein have let me advise them on what’s best to do at each stage of the band’s growth.”

Backstory:

Home base: London

Industry years: Seven.

How long with the band: Since day one (two years).

Career inspiration: “I fell into it as a summer job. Over the last few years I have positioned myself as more of a creative show designer as opposed to just lighting design.”

First industry job/first gig as an LD: You Me at Six.

Industry heroes/mentors: “Very early on I met Bryan Leitch, who has been a mentor to me ever since and I can’t thank him enough for that. I love the creative approach both Baz Halpin and LeRoy Bennett have to their work and love seeing shows they have produced.”

What do you like about what you do? “I love the creative freedom we have and being able to take something from a sketch on a piece of paper and turn that into something special.”

Other tours youve enjoyed working with: Plan B, The Temper Trap, You Me at Six.

Chvrches tour highlights: “Three nights at Terminal 5 in New York, the Hollywood Palladium and Brixton Academy.”

Words of wisdom: “I try to inspire others with the work I produce as others have the same effect on me. Also, never treat anyone not as an equal as you never know when you will need them the most.”
