David Flad of Q1 Designs recently teamed with 4Wall Los Angeles to light the interior of downtown LA's Belasco Theatre. The lighting design and implementation was one of the final stages of the three-year renovation of the 80-year-old venue. Set in a central location not far from Staples Center, the Belasco was renovated so that it could host variety of entertainment events. The challenge for Flad and his team was in making sure the lighting was versatile enough to support a variety of needs. "The Belasco is a true multi-purpose venue," said Flad. "In designing and choosing gear we had to take into account that the space can be used for anything from upscale nightclub scenes and parties to movie premiers and formal ballroom events."
Flad chose a variety of gear from 4Wall Rentals, including eight Vari*Lite VL3000 Spots, eight Martin MAC 2000 Profiles, 22 MAC 700 Profiles, 12 MAC 700 Washes, 12 Atomic 3000 Strobes, 60 ETC Source 4 Pars, 24 Par 30 LEDs, 12 Source 4 Ellipsoidals, an ETC 24x2k Sensor Pack and a grandMA Lite console.
"We could not have pulled off getting this package into the Belasco without the help of 4Wall," Flad said. "They worked with our budget to ensure we had everything we needed at the right price."
The Belasco has already hosted the premiere of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar documentary, On the Shoulders of Giants, and the venue figures to host many more upcoming Los Angeles events and attractions.
