When LD Lee Rose of Design Partners first lit Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve, Ronald Reagan was in the White House and Johnny Carson was the host of The Tonight Show. For 2010, the NYRE show featured The Black Eyed Peas, pictured above, plus Colbie Caillat, Robin Thicke, Keri Hilson, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber – and, once again, Lee Rose as LD. But instead of mid-1980s PAR cans and gels, Rose used some of the first Martin MAC 401 Dual lighting fixtures available in the U.S., which he had recently tested for Disney Parks Christmas Parade. "The 401 absolutely sold itself," Rose said, noting the need for new cross-shot looks for this year's show. "I really like the unicolor look out of each individual lens." He placed a vertical row of five MAC 401 Duals on both sides of the stage and used them for every major act. The programmer was Paul Lennon.
