This month we compare LED Ellipsoidals from a range of manufacturers. They have been working to improve the brightness, as well as the color, of the LED light engines in these workhorse fixtures. These ellipsoidals offer different combinations of LED colors to expand the range of color mixing options, as well as producing very good white light output—in both warm and cool white. Some luminaires offer a simulated tungsten effect of the ‘red shift’ you used to get when dimming traditional tungsten sources. This makes it easier to mix LED ellipsoidals with tungsten lighting or go all LED and not miss some of the beauty and warmth of tungsten.
