To cast a light on a subject but avoid pesky shadows, you require a soft light beam. This is very important in film shoots as well as photography applications and theatrical productions. To achieve this, it is important that the light source itself is not seen, but masked. This way a performer is not squinting from a bright bulb glaring at them. A Fresnel has a thick lens of concentric rings to diffuse the bright bulb. A softlight acts by bouncing the light beams around in a white box where the light is reflected omni-directionally. Here are some of the latest variations of these kinds of products, all of which offer DMX as a control option.
