The stage design for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest was recently unveiled ahead of the grand final in Malmö, Sweden, on May 11th. Lighting and Screen Content designer Fredrik Stormby from Green Wall Designs and production designer Florian Wieder are the creative team helping to create, design, and deliver a large-scale and spectacular show to a global audience of over 160 million.
The stage and lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will focus on the audience more than ever. With the stage placed in the centre of the arena, viewers will experience a visually revolutionary concept. The unique 360-degree experience surrounds the audience and viewers in the Malmö Arena. The stage is placed in the middle of the audience and shaped like a cross. Movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video, and stage technology will be able to create great variations in the arena.
The focal point of the design is a monumental installation – a centerpiece of video and light above the stage, where the lighting design is designed to embrace the artists and their performances. Together, these elements make it possible to create many unique looks for the various performances, thus bringing live and TV audiences closer to the action.
Following Loreen’s victory at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, Sweden has the honour of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time in eleven years. The decision to retain âUNITED BY MUSICâ as the official Eurovision slogan and Swedenâs robust music scene inspired the lighting and video design embodying a strong, conceptually clean, modern expression. This design not only flirts with modern music and tour production but also draws inspiration from the vibrant urban region around Ăresund and Malmö as a city. For the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Green Wall Designs will strive to execute the event exclusively using LED and laser light sources to achieve lower constant power consumption. The lighting design for the 2024 contest encompasses approximately 2000 light fixtures and 12 follow-spot systems.

Production Designer Florian Wieder, based in Los Angeles and Munich, has over the past 30 years developed the creative and visual concepts for several large-scale shows, concerts, tours, ceremonies, music and television productions worldwide. Wieder has worked with artists such as Beyonce, Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams, U2, Lady Gaga, Rammstein. He was the designer and creative producer for seven MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), 12 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) and has developed the Eurovision Song Contest seven times since 2011. In 2022, he designed the opening ceremony for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. For the MTV VMAs, he was awarded a Primetime Emmy/Best Production Design.
