Scenic Lighting
LED manufacturer Environmental Lights specializes in scenic lighting. From television and stage productions, to museums, casinos, and live events, there often are tight timelines and little room for error. Lighting is a critical element to wowing audiences and transforming sets and guest environments in an instant. Environmental Lights offers a range of products that allow for creative and engaging lighting solutions.
Environmental Lights understands that when budgets are tight the need for high-quality products at an affordable price is critical to a project’s success. They work with their clients to supply a lighting solution that is in line with the project’s financial expectations. They also know that productions often run on compressed timelines, so there is rarely much lead time to plan out projects. Environmental Lights works at speed, providing clients with quick responses, efficient shipping and focused customer service to meet the deadline. It is also of note that Environmental Lights’ products have been developed based on feedback from their customers, listening to their input on the specific set of challenges that solutions need to address in the scenic lighting market.
Here are three recent scenic and hospitality lighting projects realized with products from Environmental Lights.
Light + Change by Phillip K. Smith III
Phillip K. Smith III’s recent Light + Change exhibition, at the Palm Springs Art Museum, revealed nearly two decades of artistic work. The installations included free-standing objects and wall-mounted pieces, all profoundly captivating and immersive. Smith draws from elements of painting, sculpture, and architecture, and deploys a pared-down vocabulary of pure forms, reflective surfaces, and continually changing colors to create absorbing perceptual and atmospheric effects. Inspired by the daily light phenomena of the desert, many of his works slowly shifted from hue to hue as determined by the artist’s precisely paced color choreography. All his works have an elusive, ephemeral quality to them. Environmental Lights lighting products were vital to creating depth and providing an ever-fluctuating perspective as the hues and brightness shifted before the eyes of the museum visitors—creating an ever-changing experience.
The Environment Lights sales engineers worked closely with artist Smith and his colleagues to turn their vision into a reality. The RGB 5050 LED Strip Light from Environmental Lights was an obvious choice for this project, given the high-quality RGB light it produces and the ease with which one can control it using one of Environmental Lights’ DMX decoders and controllers. This product also features cutting increments every 2.5 inches, allowing users to customize the length for any application.
The result was a stunning exposition that utilized reflective surfaces, continually changing colors, abstract shapes, and high-quality lighting. The Light + Change exhibition drew thousands of visitors to the Palm Springs Art Museum. The experience challenged perspectives and inspired creative thinking among all who attended. Environmental Lights was proud to have played a role in this memorable and thought-provoking project.
Channel 8 CBS News Studio
Environmental Lights recently completed a comprehensive lighting installation, working with The Southwest Scenic Group in the Channel 8 CBS News Studio in San Diego, CA. Environmental Lights’ low-voltage lighting products helped to establish a compelling studio aesthetic while maintaining a focus on the news presenters. The set design required high-quality backlighting and accent lighting that could produce a wide range of colors and be completely flicker-free, which is critically important for any lighting that will be captured on camera.
After considering the requirements, the Environmental Lights lighting engineers decided the MaxRun RGBA 4-in-1 5050 LED Strip Light would be the ideal choice. The additional amber LED node in the MaxRun strip light creates tones and hues that were previously impossible to achieve with a simple RGB strip. They also provided the StudioPro 24 Channel DMX Digital Decoder to eliminate flicker while making dimming and color-changing a breeze.
Lighting from Environmental Lights elevated the overall atmosphere of the studio, enabling a more engaging and impactful news delivery. The Southwest Scenic Group was pleased with the dynamic look of the set. Environmental Lights was thrilled to have played a part in creating the Channel 8 CBS News Studio that will be seen by thousands of viewers every day.
The Venetian Las Vegas
Ceiling lighting at Las Vegas’ Venetian Resort Hotel Casino
Environmental Lights also works a lot in the hospitality lighting segment, which is extremely dynamic. There’s a lot of pressure to deliver unique experiences. The right lighting can transform any environment and create the excitement needed to help businesses stand out from the competition. Environmental Lights recently completed a cove and accent lighting installation at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. The lighting manufacturer was contracted to replace their existing glass neon lighting with a more energy efficient and durable product. This allowed the Venetian Resort to meet their sustainability initiatives and significantly reduce maintenance costs.
The lighting engineers at Environmental Lights used its Performance 2835 LED Strip Light—2,700K with a warm 2,700K color temperature to create a seamless and uniform glow along the length of the coves. The consistency of the color temperature and brightness of the light was a crucial element to provide visitors with a memorable and enduring experience.
The result is bright and dependable cove lighting that enhances the hotel’s architecture and highlights its beautiful arched ceilings and intricate details. It establishes a warm and inviting environment for guests to enjoy day and night. The Venetian is an iconic property on the Las Vegas strip, and Environmental Lights is proud to have helped provide visitors with a remarkable experience at this landmark location.
