As the old saying goes, too many cooks spoil the broth. But for Post Malone’s ‘If Y’all Weren’t Here, I’d Be Crying’ tour, his first trek with a live band, the opposite was true. This complex production had to go from “start to rehearsal load-in in just over a month—a very tight turnaround for sure,” according to Production & Lighting Designer Dan Norman. So Norman reached out and worked with a long list of collaborators.
“The direction for the tour was a very collaborative effort from myself, Production Manager Dennis Danneels, Animation Director Ian Valentine of Human Person, PLAYLAB, and WFB, the music directors.” Other helping hands included Earlybird Visual, which created “the color renderings, as I was on a show at that time,” Programmer Joe Bay, who “was miraculously between gigs,” PRG, which provided the Kinesys system and automation team, Lighting Director Anthony “Crash” Wayne, Pyrotecnico for pyro, Dark Matter for servers, All Access for staging, and Upstaging for trucking, among others. “The entire team pulled off an incredible show under a tight timeline,” Norman concluded.
