OSA International, a full-service production company with offices in Nashville, Las Vegas, and Chicago, is supplying the lighting gear and product support for Peter Frampton’s comeback tour, Never Say Never. To visually bring his shows to life in concert, Frampton turned to Lighting Designer and Emmy-award winner Gregg Maltby and a full complement of OSA lighting. Although he had never worked with Frampton before, Maltby was hired to direct the Never Say Never tour and take the lead on the tour’s production design.

Maltby is working closely with talented lighting programmer Seth Rapaport, who helped him maximize the visual impact of his design. Since Frampton will be seated for most of each show, Maltby has created an intimate yet dynamic lighting configuration with the OSA rig that is streamlined, transforms the stage, captivates audiences, helps set the mood, and creates an inviting atmosphere that will complement Peter’s songs.

“It’s been great working with Peter, crafting the desired creative experience he’s building for his tour and his fans. The more we interact, the better I understand the visual presentation he expects to see with each song in the set list,” commented Maltby.

Maltby has a long history of designing tours for artists around the globe, with the latest Peter Frampton tour being no exception. Working in the industry since 1982, Maltby has crossed paths with Mark Fetto, OSA’s vice president of lighting, numerous times. Mark and Gregg have worked closely together, helping artists visualize, coordinate, and deliver the aesthetics, feel, and overall concept of a show.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Gregg on many lighting design projects over the years, and he has a knack for using technology to make lighting design memorable and interesting,” said Fetto. “Gregg’s foundation in the industry is remarkable, and it’s a true pleasure to work with him again, this time from our Nashville office.”

“I’ve engaged with many companies during my 40-plus years in the touring music business, and the OSA lighting team really shines—literally and figuratively,” added Maltby. “The lighting rig arrived organized and packaged for touring. The system loads in and out very quickly and was built to minimize the truck space required for transportation. The OSA experience is outstanding, and I feel like I’m in good hands with their team and the products they supply.”
