The EarthX environmental expo, which was held April 21 -23 in Dallas, is an annual event that brings environmental organizations, government agencies, speakers and experts together to address sustainability issues, climate change and global innovation. It has become one of the most significant events concerning these growing issues with an average of 177,000 attendees, 300 exhibitors, 450 speakers and 2,000 guests. Here’s a video of the EarthX environmental expo:
EarthX sought a production partner who could not only deliver a full suite of creative, technical and production services—production management, design, logistics support, lighting, audio, video, and scenic—but employ best practices in event sustainability at every point. The sheer scale of the Expo raised the stakes further with events occurring simultaneously on 14 separate stages throughout the day. PRG was up for the challenge and pledged to use local, reusable, and recyclable sourced materials throughout the event, creating a carbon-neutral or negative carbon footprint wherever possible.
PRG’s sustainability focus included lower power consumption with LED-source lighting and laser-source projectors, reduced trucking by sourcing as much gear as possible from its nearby Dallas facility and reusable scenic element. “EarthX came to us with a challenge of sustainability,” said Richard Tango, PRG Senior Account Executive for PRG Gear. “We built sustainable set pieces resembling mountain landscapes from repurposed pallets, and we limited plastics and carpets on the stage sets.
Going one step further, PRG planted 10,000 trees to offset its carbon footprint. “We did all the math and figured out how many trees would be needed to offset the CO2 emissions related to our trucking for this event, and we’re happy to say that by planting the trees, we’re going to be carbon negative,” Tango said.
Carter Dunham, PRG’s Vice President of Sales for Associations, added, ”Our clients are very focused on the impact of their events on the climate. Increasingly, event professionals need to make a plan that includes the shutdown of high-power consumption items, energy efficient equipment, minimal reliance on single-use items, as well as lower waste, trucking and crew travel.”
