On Monday, September 12, The Shubert Organization officially dedicated and revealed the newly renamed James Earl Jones Theatre (138 West 48th Street, New York City), formerly the Cort Theatre, in honor of the iconic multi-award-winning American actor. In 1958 Jones made his Broadway debut on the very same theater. The dedication ceremony follows a $47 million restoration and expansion of the 110-year-old Broadway theater.
“For me standing in this very building 64 years ago at the start of my Broadway career, it would have been inconceivable that my name would be on the building today,” said Jones of Shubert’s decision to rename the Cort Theatre in his honor. “Let my journey from then to now be an inspiration for all aspiring actors.”
