Ross Video’s comprehensive production switcher lineup grows more robust and more versatile with the introduction of significant feature upgrades to the Carbonite product line, while its flagship production switcher, Acuity, is now compatible with TouchDrive control surfaces. Here’s a video Tech Talk from Ross going over the latest upgrades to Ross Video’s line of production switchers
Version 7.0 of Carbonite Ultra and Ultrix Carbonite is headlined by UltraScene, a new easy-to-use layering tool that enables complex composites to be managed as a single source. With UltraScene, up to eight layers can be used to create visually interesting composites consisting of keys, chromakeys, DVE boxes, and more. UltraScenes can be entered into MEs and MiniMEs as Background or Key sources, just like any other source in the switcher.
In addition to UltraScene, Production Sequencer functionality is included in version 7.0, and enables operators to automate simple and repeatable elements within a live production. As an easy-to-use playout tool, Production Sequencer allows for a series of tasks, events, or device controls to be linked together while complementing existing Memory and Custom Control macro capabilities.
“With these latest upgrades, our Carbonite line of production switchers has taken a huge leap forward by providing operators with new creative possibilities,” notes Nigel Spratling, Vice President of Production Switchers and Video Servers. “Version 7.0 features contained in Carbonite Ultra and Ultrix Carbonite not only allow in-house production teams to deliver more compelling content, but it also allows them to do their job more efficiently since these new features can be easily programmed and recalled using Custom Control macros.”

TouchDrive Control Panels now compatible with Acuity
The introduction of the TouchDrive control surfaces, featuring high-resolution touch-enabled LCD displays, provided Carbonite operators with unprecedented efficiency and ease of use. Today, Ross is pleased to announce that TouchDrive control surfaces are now compatible with Ultrix Acuity frames. Now, customers can pair any of the Acuity or TouchDrive Control Panels with their Ultrix Acuity frames.
“By integrating TouchDrive into the Ultrix Acuity product, we can offer a more flexible solution tailored to the workflows and budgets of our Ultrix Acuity customers,” says Spratling. TouchDrive panels, available in sizes ranging from one to three control rows, will complement the existing Acuity Control Panel family, including the no-compromise Double-Down models.
“Some customers have asked us to provide a solution that would allow them to switch the Software-Defined Production Engine switcher blade from Acuity to Carbonite and vice versa,” notes Les O’Reilly, Director, Switcher Product Management. “With this release, that process is now easier and more affordable.’
Ultrix Acuity software version 11, which enables TouchDrive support for Ultrix Acuity, is now available as a no-cost download on the Ross website.
