The 2022 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out on Sunday, May 1, 2022, to recipients in 16 categories, with two honorary awards also bestowed. Returning to a live, in-person ceremony for the first time in three years, the Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League and Lucille Lortel Theatre, with additional support provided by TDF.
Winners in the design categories included Adam Rigg for Outstanding Scenic Design for On Sugarland; Gregory Gale for Outstanding Costume Design for Fairycakes; Isabella Byrd for Outstanding Lighting Design for Sanctuary City; Nick Kourtides for Outstanding Sound Design for Oratorio For Living Things; and Shawn Duan for Outstanding Projection Design for Letters of Suresh. Special honorees this year included Deirdre O’Connell, who was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Heidi Schreck; and David Henry Hwang, who was inducted onto the famed Playwrights’ Sidewalk by Jeanine Tesori.
