DALLAS – Strand, the original name in theatrical lighting and a Signify (Euronext: LIGHT) entertainment lighting brand, today announced a new version of the popular Phase Loss Sense Panel (PLSP), a cETLus and UL924-Listed power sensing device designed to ensure entertainment lighting systems respond properly to power outages or alerts from fire alarm control panels.
More details from Strand (www.strandlighting.com):
The new update brings a host of new features to the PLSP, including variable delay timing, improved testing features, and optional remote restore functionality. A single version of the PLSP works with both 120V and 277V applications, and support for single phase or three phase applications ensures the panel will work in a variety of applications and markets. As well, the panel includes three separate changeover contact outputs that can be independently set to normally open or normally closed, providing support for multiple lighting devices and device types from a single device.
The PLSP includes new capabilities designed to make emergency power monitoring easier in entertainment lighting applications. “Because theatrical and architainment lighting systems are so complex, there are often unique requirements around how the system responds to power outages or alerts from fire alarm control panels,” explains Jon Hole, Global Product Manager, Strand and Zero 88 Systems at Signify. “If the power goes out during a theatrical performance or on a dark ride at a theme park, it might not be ideal to have the entertainment lighting system automatically return to the previous state when power is restored. With the Strand PLSP, we’ve added optional remote restore functionality that gives integrators the choice to connect a third-party button, switch, or other trigger so a technician or operator can return the system to the previous state once they are ready and the situation is safe.”
Another feature added to the PLSP to support entertainment applications is variable delay timing. “In cases where power is unstable, a momentary fluctuation of power can trigger the sensing device’s emergency state, causing the entire system to shut down,” Hole adds. “Given the long boot up times of some lighting and AV equipment, this can cause delays of seconds or even minutes before the system is restored, even in a situation where power levels fluctuated for only moments. The PLSP addresses this with a field-configurable delay setting that helps prevent nuisance triggers.”
Other features within the PLSP are targeted specifically at support technicians. To simplify routine maintenance, the panel includes three indicators that provide power status per phase. The panel also includes test buttons for each phase that initiates a momentary physical tripping of power to the phase when pressed, replicating an emergency situation without requiring power to be shut off to the area.
“The Strand Phase Loss Sense Panel includes a number of features that give it a unique position in the marketplace,” states Hole. “The PLSP is just the latest example of how Strand is working to meet the needs of the entertainment market with tailored products and an end-to-end solution.”
