Last month, just before the USA celebrated its 245th birthday on July 4, Americans celebrated the rebirth of the stadium show. Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium hosted its first concert on July 3 with a 50 percent capacity crowd for EDM artist Illenium (see Production Profile, this issue, page 8). A week later, Garth Brooks performed an in-the-round gig in the same joint, but with a 100-percent capacity crowd of 69,000 (see “Industry News” article, this issue, page 4). And along with all the regional festivals drawing decent sized crowds, the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer is up and running, filling stadiums into the fall.
