The conversations surrounding ending the practice of 10-out-of-12 technical rehearsals have been continuing. In case you missed it, or want to re-watch the latest discussion, here’s a video replay from USITT on 10-out-0f-12s in academics with Sadie DeSantis, Michael Lincoln, Elynmarie Kazle, and Terri Ciofalo. This panel discussed the 10-out-of-12 when used in an academic environment and its impact on students, faculty, and staff.

About the Panelists
Terri Anne Ciofalo is Director of Production at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Originally from New York City, Terri was the production manager and production stage manager for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet where she premiered nearly a dozen new works and site-specific installation pieces for the company. She has stage managed for Yale Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, American Players Theatre, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, and The Maryland Stage Company and has toured with Ralph Lemon, Urban Tap, and American Repertory Ballet. She earned her MFA in Stage Management from the Yale School of Drama.

Sadie DeSantis is Director of Production and Head of Stage Management program at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She works as a freelance stage manager and has production experience in concerts, ballet, opera, musical theatre, outdoor production, and corporate galas. After attending the University of Pittsburgh–Johnstown where she obtained a BA in Theatre Arts and a minor in English Literature, she earned her MFA in Theatre Design and Technology (Stage Management) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has worked for numerous companies including Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kansas City Ballet, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Prism Theatrics, Starlight Theatre, Mountain Playhouse, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre, New Theatre Restaurant, and Des Moines Metro Opera.

Elynmarie Kazle is a Stage Manager and Production Manager who works in dance, theater, and special events. She’s is a Fellow of USITT who has served multiple terms on the board of USITT as well as working with local government, city arts alliances, the Stage Managers’ Association (SMA), the SDC and past service on the west coast SM committee of AEA. As Chair of the SMA, the association has seen the membership grow from 400 to 1,300 in five years; adding representative voices from 21 cities across the US and an international cohort based on six continents. She has been an active participant in National Theatre Conference, Production Managers Forum, Gateway Project and TCG.

Michael Lincoln is Professor Emeritus of Theater at Ohio University. His full-time teaching career began at the School of Theater at Ohio University in 2003. He was a guest artist several times from 1989-1992. He served as Head of the Production Design and Technology Program from 2007-2012. In 2012 he became Director of the School of Theater and after several years on the leadership team of Tantrum Theater, was named Artistic Director in 2018. Lincoln’s professional lighting design career numbers well over 300 productions in theater, opera, and dance. He has designed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally for more than 30 years. He continues to design several productions each year, always with students assisting.
