Absen Division Accelerates China-Based Company’s U.S. Expansion
aylorleds is a Chinese LED display manufacturer focused on designing and manufacturing rental and retail customized LED Display solutions. The company, founded in 2018, is the solution to an enviable position their parent company, Absen has found themselves in due to their phenomenally rapid growth. One of the world’s largest LED manufacturers, Absen’s 30-acre facility is ideally located at the center of the world’s tech-manufacturing base — Shenzhen, China.
From China to the USA
Headquartered in the Shenzhen facility, all Taylorleds product is manufactured under the same exacting conditions and standards established by Absen. More than 1,000 employees oversee the robotic Automatic Solder- Paste Printers producing the wide array of award winning LED in the optoelectronic industrial park.
Mike Yan, managing director of Taylorleds, is in charge of daily operations and the decision making process of providing financial and manufacturing support for the new line. Previously, he worked for the Absen Europe and USA operations in sales and product solutions. He has managed multiple global key accounts and also worked on many customized projects.
“There are two reasons Absen started Taylorleds,” says Yan. “First, since Absen has a substantial presence in the LED marketplace, focusing on achieving higher growth rate with its current big volume has proven difficult and distracting.”
Secondly, Yan points out, like other big manufacturers; it is difficult for Absen to handle customized projects. The “boutique” subsidiary was created as a separate but not standalone entity to tighten their focus and provide efficient timelines of delivery for highly customized special projects. Their “standard” customized shapes include triangles and circles which facilitate efficiency overall.
Of the 25 employees dedicated to Taylorleds, the majority were handpicked from Absen’s wealth of professionals. Many have years of experience in R&D, sales, marketing, and after-sales services. Utilizing the 20 LED manufacturing lines machines from Yamaha and Panasonic at the modern facility (which, built in 2014, measures 2.5 million square feet), the small but focused staff leverages Absen’s supplier network and economy of scale for manufacturing. Taylorleds has adopting a distribution strategy and finds partners to work with in different countries. These are the dealers for their products, circumventing the necessity of multiple Taylorleds “offices.” Wendy Cheng, who represents the company in the U.S., is based in Orlando, FL.
Product Highlights
Taylorleds’ video product line includes the lightweight and ultra-thin Vapor Shine and Vapor Galore video tiles. The Glare is waterproof, rated at IP65. Their Wafer Breeze series offer a brilliant solution to a wide range of indoor fixed display usage. Ranging from a fine pitch 1.89mm up to a 4mm that provides the most surface area at the greatest resolution, these products work everywhere from TV studios and in-your-face advertising to stadium and arena displays. The Wafer ushers in what Taylorleds likes to call the “Era of 3 + 2” allowing efficiency and cost savings to accrue with their unique setup. Basically, each Taylorleds frames come in two or three module sizes. The three module size contains all the technology. Additional two module panels can be joined to these without additional technology. They are simply frames — “piggybacked” on the three module panel. There is no need to purchase additional data interiors for the two panel modules slaved to the others.
Their WB Cube series offers die-cast molds with 45° chamfers on all sides and a CNC machine finish for precision fit. The entire product line has highly efficient power supplies and good quality high brightness LEDs. Yan points out proudly the Taylorleds green energy support policy, “The power consumption of all our products is approximately 15 percent less when compared to most competitors.”
The Vapor series housing-free modules create lighter and slimmer panels than traditional frames, making them especially well suited for rental LED. Modules and power packs are easily replaceable. Additionally, the magnet on the top of the panels quickly grips the one above it for proper alignment but can act as a support; they are strong enough to hold the lower panel in place before the technician physically locks them together. The custom frames create perfect 90-degree corners and will seamlessly connect to standard panels. Stacking, hanging, or floor transformations are easily accomplished using one product for infinite applications.
For curving applications, Taylorleds have an innovative locking system to allowing for quick concave or convex displays from minus five degrees to plus 10 degrees. Further custom curving accessories are available for custom curves angles. As with all of Taylorleds’ products, the goal of making “custom modifications” is the company standard.
Customer Support
Taylorleds’ attention to customer support ranges from technical training to buyers that familiarize them with both the hardware and software. Adds Yan, “Over 300 engineers and technicians have been trained under the supervision of our project director, Evan Stevens, as well.”
Both Stevens and Cheng are graduates of the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. Taylorleds have returned to their alma mater and completed the installation of 150 Viper Shine 2.97mm LED panels in the UCF Athletics Gym Room. The two screens, each comprised of 75 panels, each measure 8.2 feet by 26.6 feet in size (HxW), with 2,520 by 840 pixels.
Another current specialty project includes the manufacturing of an outdoor 3.9mm three-sided cube solution for the MGM group in Las Vegas, due to be installed this January.
For the future, the small company with a long reach plans to “continue on giving endless possibilities to LED panels to create with no limits,” says Yan. “We are investing in more add-on for Vapor and Wafer Series to make them more customized and can be applied in more creative applications.”
Absen has installations in more than 120 countries. In 2013, they established their U.S.A. presence. With the introduction of Taylorleds in 2018, they have further enhanced their market share by exhibiting their capabilities as a recognized specialist in unique LED designs. Taylorleds is their special products division geared to enlarge their custom creations specialty market.
