“The logistics of putting this event on are quite boggling and its success is due to a veteran staff calling all of the right shots,” said Bandit Lites Vice President Mike Golden. “Because of their focus and attention, this year’s Dove Awards was another resounding success from a production vantage point. This year marked the fiftieth anniversary of the Dove Awards and, coincidentally, Bandit celebrated our fiftieth anniversary last year, so it was very satisfying to be a part of another organization enjoying the same milestone.”

Lighting designer Mark Carver devised a lighting system of a grand scale that would rise to the momentous anniversary with more than 210 fixtures with two grandMA2 Full consoles for control supplied by Bandit Lites.

“We wanted the show to feel large scale for both the live audience and the audience at home,” explained Carver. “We tried to draw unique attention to the diverse styles of music represented by utilizing diverse lighting and media.”

Carver employed Claypaky B-EYE K20s for stage wash color tonight as well as eye candy for the cameras. Chauvet Maverick MK3 Washes supplied the primary back and key light for the stage and bands while also offering gobo air effects. GLP X4 fixtures provided audience wash and both awards looks and color, VL 3500 Spots were key stage light and Colorado One Battens gave scenic dimension and color to the eye and camera.

“We tried to create depth and dimension by utilizing different fixtures qualities in different planes and layers,” said Carver.

“I was very impressed with the versatility and output of the Elation Smarty,” he said, using the Smarty for beam effects and hard edge gobo air effects. “Its color rendering was impressive. The Maverick MK3 are also a very impressive fixture by way of output and LED color match capabilities.”

“It takes a dedicated team to make an event of this nature possible and the production staff for the Doves are as dedicated as they come,” said Golden. “Scott Moore oversees the production, and his attention to detail is unmatched. Mark Carver never disappoints with his focus, and the team he assembles know how to get the most out of every fixture in the rig.”

Bandit’s crew for the Dove Awards included Ryan Waldron, Savannah Harden, Ty Veneziano and Chuck Hastings with additional support from Project Manager Don Lockridge.

“Bandit helped working on a very tight load in schedule and a show with a lot of moving parts,” Carver finished. “I was very pleased with the show and the collaboration with lighting board operator André Petrus and media operator Tony Fransen.”
