“This show was designed to incorporate a look that would be dynamic in daylight and for nighttime,” said Lighting Designer Mark Carver. “This was accomplished using large face LED fixtures such as BB7 and B-EYES and the incandescent Portman P1. Robe BMFLs and VL 3500 Spots and Washes offered great daytime support.”
Bandit Lites supplied over 480 feet of truss for the outdoor event and nearly 250 lighting fixtures including Robe BMFL fixtures, VL 3500 Spots, VL 3500 Washes, GLP X4 fixtures, Elation Paladins, Claypaky B-EYE K20 fixtures, Claypaky Sharpys, Portman P1 fixtures and Bandit’s exclusive GRNLite Moving Washes.
The LED and incandescent fixtures supplied eye candy for the video cameras, while the BMFLs and Sharpys provided sharp, hard-edged beams effects and textures.
Carver shared he was thankful for Producer Rachel Quann with SBHH LLC for “giving us the opportunity to be part of the event and giving total design support in vision.” With a large variety of acts ranging from single performers, ensembles and speakers, Carver was mindful of staying true to the diversity of each act’s vision adding, “Communication with each act as they arrived was key in this.”
In addition to the normal challenges of massive outdoor events, Bandit’s team maneuvered through a week of rain, preparing the exposed trusses with rain protection using Bandit’s exclusive Outside Truss Cover, or OTC, a custom designed rain protection system designed by Dizzy Gosnell of Bandit for use in wet environments. OTC reduces water damage to zero in most cases.
“On site techs Jon Houle, Chris Noll and Elizabeth Weller braved the rain and cold and delivered a great system with a great attitude,” shared Carver. “Thanks to Project Manager Don Lockridge, Production Manager Dizzy Gosnell and GM Mark Steinwachs for a well-prepped and cad drawn system, and Mike Golden for helping meet budget demands and gear requirements.”
