BRUSSELS, Belgium – Representatives from theatrical industry organizations, lighting manufacturers and designers met with regulators with the European Union’s (EU) Energy & Culture departments on May 17 to discuss the proposed Eco Regulations for 2020, which could potentially limit the types of light fixtures available for stage lighting.

PEARLE (Performing Arts Employers Associations League Europe), an organization based in Brussels with members in all EU states, joined with SOLT/UK Theatre, the trade associations PLASA, VLPT and OETHG, and the ALD, IALD and the Association of Swedish Lighting Designers to give voice to their concerns about the future of stage lighting.

With the next draft of the regulations planned by the European Commission by late June, industry group members resolved to quickly provide regulators with specific, technically based exemptions to the new rules on fixtures allowable for stage lighting use.
