Stan, at home behind the console.

Stan Green, LD and longtime family member of many Tom Petty tours over the last twenty years, passed away March 28 of natural causes. After a couple months of illness, his organs failed and he had been placed in hospice two days ago, surrounded by family and at peace. He was 53.

Stan’s career started in the Seattle area and his love of music carried him into lighting, a career he excelled at for some 30 years. His first lighting experience dates back to high school, which he graduated in 1982. He spent his youth working with young local bands and eventually found work at the Moore Theater as a local stage hand. He started touring with young bands and got a big break when Robert Cray hired him on in the early 90’s as his lighting designer. He moved on to light many bands, including work for John Legend, the Black Crowes, and Sara McLachlan.

He was hired to assist Jim Lenahan at FOH for Tom Petty many years ago. When LDs started looking after video content, Stan became the media server guru for Tom Petty and is often considered one of the pioneering technicians who took on that technology (Catalyst). Stan moved on to program many shows for Microsoft and kept just as busy at the console in corporate events, as he did in concert work.

Stan was a foodie who appreciated the art of food, and he enjoyed posting images if whatever exotic meal he found all over the world. He was known as a jolly person to all and will be well remembered as a friend to many in our industry.

Stan would have turned 54 on May 8th. He was the youngest of five children. He is survived by his mother, father and four sisters. Details are pending on any future services.
