It wouldn’t be the holidays without Christmas music, and Pentatonix, the three-time Grammy-award winning a cappella group brought the sounds of the season on their recently wrapped tour to thousands of fans. Bandit Lites provided the lighting package for the fourteen-show tour which featured the international sensations performing songs from their certified platinum deluxe album, A Pentatonix Christmas.

Production Designers Sooner Routhier and Robert Long of SRae Productions crafted the elegant design while Ian Haslauer acted as Associate Lighting Designer and Programmer for the tour which featured a festive setting. The audience was drawn into the stage with a wreath adorning a mantel along with geometric trees spread across the stage with LED festoons draped upon the boughs.
“The majority of the fixtures for the tour are used as scenic lighting,” said Routhier. “There is a ton of white scenery on the show. We needed LED fixtures to change the entire color palette of the stage easily.”
Bandit Lites supplied Chauvet RGB Festoons, Elation Color Chorus 72, Elation Color Chorus 48, Robe BMFL, Clay Paky B-EYE K20 and two grand MA 2 lite consoles for control.
“We wanted to be able to chase colors and dimmer in the Christmas tree lights,” Routhier said. “The Chauvet festoons were perfect for this.”
Haslauer programmed the show in its entirety at Bandit’s Venue One rehearsal space, creating stunning and dynamic looks using a Christmas style color palette.
“We didn’t have the time to hang our rig, so I programmed with one of each fixture type in Venue Ones Virtual Suite # 2,” he said. “The fact that you can prep, hang, tech, and program a rig in their facility though is huge. Between the Account Representative, Shawn Lear, Bandit Production Manager Gene Brian, and lighting crew chief Jimmy Murray, I was very well taken care of.”
“Working with this group of professionals is what makes our business great and I am thrilled to have the privilege of working with SRae Productions entire team,” said Bandit’s Shawn Lear. “Pentatonix sound is an amazing journey into the spirit of Christmas and Ian Haslauer never stops, working at our Venue One location well into the nights to get the job right. During review of the Pre-Vis playback tracks I recall being mesmerized in the minutia of queues; it was incredible!”
