The Origin of Theatre

Share this Post:

Theatre as we know it began in ancient Greece with religious ceremonies where people sang dithyrambs, ancient hymns to the Gods. The public would gather to watch as a chorus of men dressed in goat skins (who may or may not have been acting as Satyrs) would sing and dance. Greek audiences during this time were known to applaud by stomping their feet rather than clapping their hands.
