It’s been about 15 years since media servers made a splash and one did not have to be a professional video engineer to play clips at a gig. To think of how far this technology has come is mind-boggling. Almost all of them feature projection blending now as well as the ability to play back multiple HD layers on multiple surfaces. Most can take a live camera feed with little delay in the playback time, even after the signal is run through various effects. But with all these super devices, it’s nice to know that you can buy a simple device for under a thousand bucks to play back your video files and it can be controlled by DMX or Art-Net.
