Designer Insights

Steve Jennings caught up with Travis Shirley, production designer and creative director for the tour supporting Charlie Puth’s debut album, Nine Track Mind:

“Bang for the buck ! That’s what the intention was designing Charlie Puth’s Nine Track Mind world tour. I first started working with Charlie while acting as production designer on his and Meghan Trainor’s American Music Awards performance last year. Charlie is a bright new artist with a raw talent that is hard to find these days. Designing a show around his impeccable song writing, singing and piano playing was a bit tricky, not only due to logistics and venue parameters but also the fact that he’s such an organic talent that he can’t be a hostage to. He’s the real star of the show, and the production just gives a bit more focus to him and the impact of his melodic melodies. Joe Cabrera did an amazing job programming while Jason Hartwyk is the perfect man to drive this show around the world as director.”
