Tour: North America/Europe
Tour Dates: Through end of 2014
Gig: Tour Lighting Director
The Design: “Martin Phillips’ set, lighting and video design was inspired by the band’s overall aesthetic, and designed with their custom performance MIDI interface called ‘The Blade’ in mind. While there are no ‘traditional’ instruments on stage, the band is playing their music live. Music goes from powerful anthemic sounds to beautiful string sounds and dark, moody melodies. The lighting and video complement both extremes.”
“The design includes custom risers, custom designed bongo drums and Japanese taiko drums, which house their MIDI drums plus some lighting and video elements. There is a main video wall and 16 spot fixtures. There are 49 moving LED wash fixtures on ladders behind the video wall and two ladders for side light. Other LED elements include RGB LED tape and static wash fixtures.”

Creative Spark: “School plays, realizing that behind the scenes was a better fit. My early exposure to Broadway was a large part of it.”
First Industry Gigs: “Nightclubs, small venues — where we could spend all night playing and learning consoles and fixtures.”
First LD Gig: “With AFI (A Fire Inside).”
Heroes/Mentors: “I took this gig to work with LD Martin Phillips; for concerts and live events, he and John McGuire from Bionic League top my list, along with LD Alastair Bramall-Watson as well. Broadway (heroes) are Jules Fisher and Douglas Adams. For set designs, I adore Es Devlin and her work with Pet Shop Boys.”
What Do You Like About What You Do? “Creating visual memories. I love being part of a team and playing with the toys.”
Words of Wisdom: “Take whatever job is offered to you; you will learn something. It may not be the job you want in the moment, but down the road you might need to call upon those skills.”
