MIAMI — Atomic Lighting supplied Elation Professional’s Cuepix Panel matrix blinder for Premio Lo Nuestro 2014, an annual awards show that honors the best of Latin music. This year’s event was held on Feb. 20 at American Airlines Arena here and broadcast on the Univision Network, the U.S.’s top Spanish-language network.
More details from Elation Professional (www.elationlighting.com):
Atomic bought the panels for the show where 22 of the high-power color matrix blinders were used during the performance of Jencarlos Canela as façade covers on the drum risers. Lighting designer Carlos Colina commented, “I wanted to mask the band risers with some sort of panels and Brett Puwalski at Atomic suggested the Cuepix. It fit perfectly in front of the risers. They are super bright, the dimming curve was incredible and I loved the colors we were able to get out of them. All I can say is that they really popped on camera!”
Part of Elation’s popular Cuepix Series of LED blinders and strip lights, the Cuepix Panel features individual pixel control and a full spectrum of colors from 25 x 30-watt RGB COB LEDs. It is ideal for adding high-impact colored light to productions of all types.
“We’ve been extremely happy with the Cuepix,” stated lighting programmer on the show Felix Peralta, who first used the Elation panels last year on an MTV World Stage production. “I was extremely pleased with their dimming curve and unlike other LED products in this class of light, the CuePIX truly stands out. In the world of television, we normally work at real low light levels. Other products tend to shift color and appear very steppy at levels below 10%. The Cuepix outperformed the other products in its class.”
When Carlos decided to feature the Cuepix Panels on the musical number, Felix knew it was the best tool for the task. “The song featured many dynamic tempo changes, something the Cuepix handled with much ease,” he stated. “I’m confident we’ll be seeing plenty more of them on future productions.”
