BIRMINGHAM, AL – For the fourth year in a row, Upstage Video partnered with Tallahassee, FL-based Production Support Group to provide LED screens and scenic elements for the Bassmaster Classic Bass Fishing Tournament. This year’s event took place at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The crews assembled more than 270 LED tiles to build five traditional screens, six slanted towers and a “pyramid” that served as the center backdrop to the official Bassmaster Weigh-in.

Upstage Video chose a combination of their Color Specific 5mm SMD Indoor LED tiles and 8mm SMD Indoor/Outdoor tiles to accommodate the detailed content that would be displayed on the screens. Says lead tech Greg Brown, “the content on the upper screens was text-heavy and there was a lot of playback of older video that would not have come across as clearly on a lower resolution tile.” The CS series tiles also came across beautifully on television.
Building the scenic structures was particularly challenging as the angles on either side of the pyramid needed to be perfect. “Production Support Group provided a killer rigging crew to mount the screens onto a series of pipes and cross-pipes to ensure that everything stayed in place throughout the event.”
“Upstage Video has become my go-to supplier for video displays,” says PSG President Larry Schmidt. “My design depended on some out of the ordinary rigging of the LED panels and the Upstage Video team jumped right in and helped make the vision a reality. The product they deliver to my designs is exemplary.”
